Ventilation Necessity for The Oven and Stove

Do Electric Ovens Need a Vent?

Typically, the electric oven is not vented. You may find vents around it to keep heat from building up between the oven and the outer casing. On the other hand, A gas oven will be vented because the flame inside needs to exhaust the combustion emissions and draw in fresh air to burn.

However, some electric ovens have a cooling fan on top of the oven to let excess heat, pressure, fumes, and humidity escape.

The cooling fan, a cylindrical fan, is operated automatically by a thermal switch. It is designed to keep the area between the cavity and outer casing cool. As the temperature rises, it causes the bimetallic strip inside the thermal switch to turn the cooling fan on.

As the temperature cools, the bimetallic strip breaks the contact which subsequently turns the fan motor off. When you finish cooking and turn the oven thermostat off, the cooling fan motor should still be running and will be running for approximately 10 minutes or so until the oven cools down.

Do Electric Stoves Need to Be Vented?

An electric stove usually doesn’t need to be vented. It is nice to have a range vent hood installation on the wall because it will take strong smells, water vapor, grease, and heat out of the air. That will resist your kitchen stuff roaming around the other rooms.

Yet not satisfied!? Well, if you stick all day long to your electric stove, cooking, boiling, etc., then you will definitely need a huge CMF venting system. But what do you do when you have some mild-burning needs?

What you have to do is to mount an adequate amount of an inline fan that should be installed in the ceiling right above the electric stove.

Do You Need a Vent for a Built-in Oven?

All the ovens that emit heat in a vast amount have a vent in them installed in accordance with the intensity of the heat or oven structure. Some have a cooling fan, a cylindrical fan, for fanning the oven until it cools down.

But in a built-in oven, the owner has to do something with the oven housing for exhausting the emitted stuff blown out by the oven vent. The owner has to keep the required ventilation space in the oven housing.

Different ovens require different spaces for themselves. First, determine which brand you are going to bring and read the ventilation requirement of it.

Let’s focus on crucial issues:

  • Before installing the oven, ensure there is suitable ventilation as detailed in the installation guide.
  • If you are installing an oven under a hob, follow the hob’s installation instruction regarding ventilation requirements.
  • The oven housing must be heat resistant up to 90 degrees Celsius and adjacent furniture must be up to 75 degrees Celsius.

At last, one thing to say, determine which type of microwave you are going to purchase at the very initial stage of setting up your kitchen. Accordingly, leave the required space for it and its ventilation.
